BUOYANCY AND STABILITY OF PONTOONS IN SUMPS OF OPEN-PIT COAL MINES IN KUZBASS (ARTICLES REVIEW)

Drain sumps for underground and surface water are provided for prevention of open pit coal mines flooding. When filled, water is pumped out by pumping equipment, fixed on floating crafts in the form of pontoons. Todaу there are no scientifically based recommendations for the use pontoons in open pit coal mines, that’s why the problem of pontoons safety use is still not solved. However, recently there has been an interest in solving this problem, devoted to regular publications on various areas of pontoons use: buoyancy and stability, rolling on «still water» and on regular waves, stability in the process of parametric pitching. In the article the brief review of articles considering the problems connected with the use of pontoons in open-pit coal mines in Kuzbass is given. The buoyancy and stability of pontoons are considered in more detail. Two mainly types of the analyses of stability of pontoons are described. First is based on B.V. Davydov method, second is based on the Euler fundamental theorem about small deviations of floating bodies from the equilibrium position. A comparative analysis of these approaches is done. The analysis of the rolling motion of the pontoons on large banks is presented.
Keywords: pontoon, waterline, Archimedes principal, center of volume, Coefficient of reserve buoyancy, trim and list angles, metacentric radius, metacentric height, pontoonS stability.
